Transactional Dialogues on Quantum Consciousness

Wheeler delayed choice experiment (1) shows that a decision can be made after a photon from a distant quasar has traversed a gravitationally lensing galaxy by deciding whether to detect which way the photon traveled or to demonstrate it went both ways by sampling interference. The final state at the absorber thus appears to be able to determine past history of the photon. Quantum erasure (2) likewise enables a distinction already made, which would prevent interference, to be undone after the photon is released. Feynman diagrams (3) show similar time-reversible behavior. Time reversed electron scattering (d) is identical to positron creation-annihilation. (4a) In the transactional interpretation, a single photon exchanged between emitter and absorber is formed by constructive interference between a retarded offer wave (solid) and an advanced confirmation wave (dotted). (b) EPR experiments of quantum entanglement involving pair-splitting are resolved by combined offer and confirmation waves, because confirmation waves intersect at the emission point. Contingent absorbers of an emitter in a single passage of a photon (c). Collapse of contingent emitters and absorbers in a transactional match-making (d).

Introduction

This blog is a dialogue on a possible connection between a certain interpretation of quantum theory and conscious anticipation and free-will in decision-making. Firstly I present a discussion and then others interested in understanding the brain-mind relationship try to make sense of the proposal in a series of free-ranging discussions.

The theory is explained in full detail with neuroscience discussion and references in my paper: The Central Enigma of Consciousness

Summary

A short account of the quantum approach is summarized as follows. One of the basic ways to explain both subjective consciousness and its apparent influence on the physical world in the form of free-will is through the idea that quantum uncertainty provides a loop-hole preventing physical processes from being entirely deterministic and at the same time opening a small window of opportunity for subjective consciousness to act upon brain states if they are in turn sensitive to quantum fluctuations.

Since the critical issue of survival is anticipation of potentially lethal or highly advantageous situations in a complex computationally intractable open environment the question arises as to how uncertainty might provide an anticipatory property. This leads yo spooky aspects of quantum reality including quantum entanglement and transactions.

All forms of quantum field theory stem from the special relativistic form of the energy. This gives two solutions, a positive energy solution traveling in the usual (retarded) direction in time and a negative energy (advanced) solution, traveling backwards in time.

All special-relativistic quantum theories, such as quantum electrodynamics anre based on these dual solutions. Feynman diagrams likewise implicitly contain both the advanced and retarded solutions. For a photon, which is its own anti-particle, the advanced and retarded solutions of electron-electron repulsion by exchanging virtual particles (3a-c) are identical, as a negative energy advanced photon IS a positive energy retarded photon. Likewise electron scattering becomes positron creation-annihilation when time reversed (d). The delayed choice experiment and quantum erasure, (1,2) confirm that changes after emission, or even at absorption, can influence the path taken by a photon or other exchanged particle .

In the transactional interpretation, such an advanced ‘backward traveling’ wave in time gives a neat explanation, not only for the above effect, but also for the probability aspect of the quantum in every quantum experiment. Instead of one photon traveling between the emitter and absorber, there are two shadow waves, which superimposed make up the complete photon. The emitter transmits an offer wave both forwards and backwards in time, declaring its capacity to emit a photon. The potential absorbers of this photon transmit a corresponding confirmation wave. These, traveling backwards in time, send a hand-shaking signal back to the emitter. The offer and confirmation waves superimpose constructively to form a real photon only on the space-time path connecting the emitter to the absorber.

The transactional interpretation offers the only viable explanation for the apparently instantaneous connections between detectors in entanglement experiments in which a pair of correlated photons are emitted by a single atom, in which neither of the photons has a defined polarization until one of them is measured, upon which the other immediately has complementary polarization. In (4b), rather than a super-luminal connection between detectors A1 and A2, the two photons’ advanced waves meet at the source emission point in a way which enables the retarded waves to be instantaneously correlated at the detectors. One can also explain the arrow of time, if the cosmic origin is a reflecting boundary that causes all the positive energy real particles in our universe to move in the retarded direction we all experience in the arrow of time and increasing entropy .

The hand-shaking space-time relation implied by the transactional interpretation makes it possible that the apparent randomness of quantum events masks a vast interconnectivity at the sub-quantum level, reflecting Bohm’s implicate order , although in a different manner from Bohm’s pilot wave theory . Because transactions connect past and future in a time-symmetric way, they cannot be reduced to predictive determinism, because the initial conditions are insufficient to describe the transaction, which also includes quantum boundary conditions coming from the future absorbers. However this future is also unformed in real terms at the early point in time emission takes place. My eye didn’t even exist, when the quasar I look out at emitted its photon, except as a profoundly unlikely branch of the combined probability ‘waves’ of all the events generating parallel ‘probability universes’ throughout the history of the universe between the time, long ago, that the quasar released its photon, and me being in the right place, at the right time to see it distant epochs later.

In the extension of the transactional approach to supercausality, a non-linearity collapses the set of contingent possibilities to one offer and confirmation wave, (4c,d). Thus at the beginning, we have two sets of contingent emitters and absorbers and at the end each emitter is now exchanging with a specific absorber. Before collapse of the wave function, we have many potential emitters interacting with many potential absorbers. After all the collapses have taken place, each emitter is paired with an absorber. One emitter cannot connect with two absorbers without violating the quantum rules, so there is a frustration between the possibilities, which can only be fully resolved if emitters and absorbers are linked in pairs. The number of contingent emitters and absorbers are not necessarily equal, but the number of matched pairs is equal to the number of real particles exchanged.

Discussion

Dhushara: We have three notions of randomness.

One comes form a situation where we have only partial or statistical information about a classical system, or when we are sampling populations statistically. leaving aside one in which randomness is
an artifact of sampling and partial information, we turn to two and three.

Two comes directly from quantum uncertainty whose description is based on the probabilities you get by a square of the (complex) wave amplitude and is the root of the whole quantum riddle and the cat paradox.

Three comes from situations like tossing a coin or throwing a die where we set up a chaotic or unstable process and use it to determine an outcome.

In three chaotic instability comes down to an arbitrarily small perturbation becoming the seed of the instability so there is a good case it is sourced in quantum uncertainty too, if we are very careful about how we toss the coin. so three becomes two.

Everything we discover about entanglement shows us something of the under-stratum of how uncertainty may come about. I probably used entanglement a little incorrectly in the sense that I was referring to the hidden dynamic that causes the probability interpretation and the interrelated properties of entanglement.

When you release two particles in an EPR experiment, each behaves randomly - e.g. the polarization could be in any direction - but when you put the two records together you find that each was complementary to the other, so there was a hidden causal connection we couldn't see at one detector alone.

Transactions provide the only explanation I know of about how this comes about (i.e. the advanced waves from the detector states run back to the source emitter at the instant the two photons are being emitted) so transactions look like the basis for the hidden realm.

Cliff: I got the feeling that the YIN many worlds of the future are virtual worlds that the YANG present, probably at the Planck Scale, gets to choose from; thus making the real world- one real world.

Richard: I prefer, and I think it is a preference, to think of the Many Worlds as all virtual, until the moment of selection, along with virtual quantum waves, that define the many worlds. I suspect that cosmic forces work out the consequences of every possible selection, beforehand, to keep information finite. But at a moment, in fact in the present moment, all transacrtions yield the one real universe. I get that from my religion as well.

Dhushara: If we are dealing with virtual particles we have a virtual summation. If we are dealing with a real exchanged particle we have a transactional collapse of the wave packet.

When the particle that is exchanged is virtual, all the histories take places as a superposition, so when two electrons repel we have an infinite sequence of Feynman diagrams. This is the summation of histories approach to calculating forces in quantum field theories.

When we are talking transactions, we are talking about a real particle being exchanged, e.g. in an interference experiment. The boundary conditions of the emitters are that of an atom at high energy ready to emit a real photon. The boundary conditions at the absorbers are an atom at low energy ready to absorb a real photon. After the transaction we know which emitter linked by a real photon to each absorber - the marriage dance.

The parallel universes come from the different ways real photons could be linked between. These parallel universes are virtual until we make a decision in which one of them becomes real. One meaning one constellation of monogamous marriages if there are many emitters and absorbers.

All transactions yield one real universe after collapse.

It's not atomic forces which work this out. If you want to understand this you have to figure out what kind of meta-space-time the transaction is occurring in. Before hand we have a Feynman space-time diagram with promiscuous interaction. After collapse we have monogamous transaction. Now this change is happening outside space-time so we are dealing with a dynamic in which we have to think outside the box of space-time.

This is where consciousness as a cosmic complement to the physical universe seems to find its function in collapsing to historicity. This is why we can't replicate experiments about consciousness, because we can't make a replicable study of any of these things without trying to intrude to make a yes or no answer about conventional causality when we know the EPR experiments violate Bell's inequalities. Also if you think about any experiment with reduction of the wave packet influencing decision making by the brain, the context is changing, so you don't get a repeat at all. If you do stipulate perfect replication you just get the probability interpretation of quantum theory which is what the pair-splitting experiments do.

Not only that but transactions for the same reason involve future parallel universe states as absorber boundary conditions. You can't get away from this. When I look at a quasar, the photon is absorbed by my eye which to the quasar is just one probability universe in the future wave function.

You think your eye is real but to the quasar its just one of many probability universes.

Richard: "If we are dealing with virtual particles we have a virtual summation. If we are dealing with a real exchanged particle we have a transactional collapse of the wave packet." says Chris K

Now Chris, are you not mixing the Many Worlds interpretation with collapse and Copenhagen? What Everett tried to do, and I think succeeded, is to replace Copenhagen and collapse (for which there is no theory or even a reasonable concept for how it could happen).

You apparently see a real electron wandering along and encountering a detector where a transaction with virtual positrons from the future takes place; where I see virtual quantum waves propagating along with virtual electrons that transact with virtual positrons and virtual wave functions from the many future Worlds. You also say "These parallel universes are virtual until we make a decision in which one of them becomes real".

Thus, at any instant of time, "all transactions yield one real unverse " but with no need for collapse, I think.

In my scheme the only thing that is real is the transaction. Virtual wave functions immediately propagate after each transaction. The resulting electron in the detector has such constrained quantum wave functions that we approximate it as a real particle; but actually its just a bunch of highly constrained wave functions, so I think.

Dhushara: In Everett's many worlds, all possibilities happen with both real and virtual particles. So the universe branches endlessly and I mean endlessly, not just in two, or three-way splits, but infinite smears of splits because unlocalized quanta have continuous eigenfunctions.

Everett's theory says the Cat Paradox doesn't exist because when we open the box we split into two parallel universes, one is where the cat is dead and the other where it is alive. But the experimenter
doesn't know he/she has split because the branches don't communicate with one another. Therefore the universe looks real to us only because we can't see we are actually split into an uncountable infinity of forms and futures.

Now the problems set in. Since all histories are followed, however improbable, all decisions never get made, because if we decide to walk on the shady path at the cross roads and this decision is a function of a quantum superposition then we were also walking on the stony path and a decision wasn't actually made at all. Therefore our impression of not only free-will but more basically personal autonomy over our lives ceases.

The idea that every step we take and every decision we make we are splitting into infinite forever separated apparitions of ourselves while not being able to sense anything of it is nothing short of psychotic. Also this
universe has again become parallel deterministic.

There is no room for any form of choice than there would be if we were automata. No collapse of the wave function ever occurs and there isn't one real universe but an infinite superposition of parallel ones. The waves never become particles either because really the waves are the superposition of the particles so waves become parallel waves when particles collide. Well okay but this doesn't explain how the wave traveling through the two slit experiment ends up forming a wave the happens to curl up on one atom and give all its vital energy to that one. Some sort of non-linearity has occurred. This is where Bohm's pilot wave idea is trying to reach.

Now the problem is that an alive/dead cat patently isn't what we experience the world to be like. We always experience the cat alive or dead when we actually open the box although we may imagine all possibilities up to that point. This looks like collapse and it looks like the superposition of eigenfunctions has become one eigenfunction.

Everett fudges the problem by replacing collapsing by splitting, both being functional applications of the probability function. Now this is the heart of the mystery because its almost impossible to find a situation in the classical world where a dynamical process distributes itself probabilistically according to a wave function rather than as a summation of dynamical forces. So the wave particle relationship itself is the koan as we have known all along.

So along comes the transactional interpretation, which Cramer originally coined as an interaction between one emitter and one absorber as boundary conditions.

This finesses the collapse problem because his boundary conditions already give 100% probability of interaction between one emitter and one absorber, but it also shows how entanglement is communicated in the EPR experiment and suggest why the arrow of time exists from a reflecting big bang.

So if we are going to bring the transactional idea together with the parallel universes idea, we have to figure how the superposition of many possible emitter-absorber connections become socially monogamous
partnerships. This again is in terms of the probability interpretation, but now its become a probability associated with a discrete set of transactions, so its beginning to show something about how the hidden variable realm works, and it works very weirdly handshaking past and future.

Now it becomes possible to ground ourselves in a universe that has both parallel aspects as Everett's superpositions try to declare, but at the same time a real history occurs and free-will and consciousness has a role in collapsing the wave function and thus making the real path of history out of the process. This is the historical world we experience.

Now what's good about this is that we have a plausible if speculative basis for consciousness and free-will having an evolutionary role of anticipating future uncertainties and we can intuitively get a feel for the alive/dead cat before opening the box, which then plays a role in how the opening box unfolds.

If we go all the way to Copenhagen, we are lost again because there is no meaning to uncertainty except as a random variable with no predictive worth making decisions for us in a manner no better than a magical superstition.

Richard: Easy button. Just make everything virtual except for the transaction. The transaction negates the need for splitting or collapsing including Coping(hagen) as long as all the myraid possibilities that exist before the transaction, and immediately spring up afterwards, are virtual.

Dhushara: You need to spell your real and virtual idea out in enough detail to make it plausible.

A transaction is already a description of a real particle exchange. Making it real isn't the issue and it won;t make many worlds true. One can deal with virtual exchanges using transactions but they always sum all histories so it doesn't tell you anything new.

You still haven't said anything about how your many-worlds idea leaves any room for choice to interact with the quantum world, or how it differs from the many-worlds of Everett.

It looks to me that many worlds will turn real transactions into just such sums of histories and render the real interactions choiceless as well.

Richard: I did indicate that as soon as the transaction is complete thereby choosing a real particle that real particle immediately propagates virtual quantum waves. So the real particle does not propagate and the real particle becomes again virtual.

So the sum over all histories is not lost either in the transaction or in subsequent transactions of that one particle, which becomes virtual until the next transaction

The point is that with every transaction a particular world is chosen which amounts to many potential worlds becoming one world with the choice of the transaction.

Everett claims that a real particle in supperposition, chooses every possibility, and launched numerous real particles into real worlds. That is not a choice if everything is chosen.

In essence I am saying everything is virtual except the choice. No collapse, just a choice. Randomness is preserved.

Dhushara: This ends up looking just about the same as how I described it.

Cliff: From what you said I get that the future pulling us is like fate that ultimately we cannot avoid. But along the way we have the freedom to go off the path leading to the future or even move efficiently along that path by being open to the future, and the coincidences or synchronicity it provides to us for advancement.

Dhushara: We are the arbiters of which future we choose. when we are making a real choice there isn't one future but many - at least two. each future has a probability universe just like the cat paradox before we open the box. conscious free will is a way of opening the box in a certain kind of way. that is by taking the shady path or the rocky path we cause one of the probability futures to become the real one. We aren't being sucked towards either future. nor are we sucked towards THE future. generally we are splitting the wave function dramatically into myriads of possible futures - all of us at once - and trying to make the best free-will interventions we can for our own survival.

One might hope that if consciousness is using free will to anticipate, then this amounts to the universe choosing a more beneficent outcome. this may be true, but we aren't going to be able to prove it easily, or it would have become locally causal and violated bell's inequalities, so we have to be content with an undecidable proposition and just try to be as astute as we can and hope things work out okay.

This is the thorny problem of replication. The problem with trying to do replicative experiments about transactional anticipation (or coincidence) is that if they succeeded we would have inevitably in some sense violated the probability interpretation so we are always I fear going to find the results ambiguous.

However the pair-splitting EPR experiment shows that, in at least some circumstances, we can see there is a causal connection hidden in the entanglement even thought the statistics at each detector appears random.

Also the YANG emitter isn't just one and the YIN absorbers many. Each absorber could have come from lots of emitters too so you start with a tangled bunch of emitters and absorbers all having promiscuous transactional affairs and end up with monogamy - one photon connecting one emitter to one absorber - quantum coitus.

Cliff, your idea that the emitter doesn't need an absorber is reiterating the standard 'model' of quantum theory. All virtual particles need both an emitter and an absorber to exist. We don't know if real particles do too and some people might think in an expanding universe emitters can just radiate into the empty sky. This remains to be settled, but brain states can't be radiated into an empty sky and if the brain sets up internal reverberating states, which only it can absorb later, we are in the transactional anticipation business.

Transactions a-la-Cramer have boundary conditions one emitter and one absorber exchanging one real photon, but that's just an idealized case.

If there is only one future, how do we make any decisions?

Really it's highly abnormal for one historical process to emerge in the quantum mechanical world, so the fact that we experience a single real line of history requires some explanation, posing the contradictions involved in collapse of the wave function.

Cliff: IMHO Transactions are a quantum leap into the future and the result of that leap is that a value is placed upon the future observed.

A transaction is not between the present and many worlds but between the present and one world. It may be that the value of the future state is judged to be to low to go there. That future is assigned to dissipate away.

When we make a choice to move toward a future, we choose the path of dissipation by which the present will dissipate into the future.

If the mind has a state of momentum, then choosing the evolutionary advantageous path of least resistance maintains the momentum of the mind. There are many worlds to choose from but what we don't do is see many futures and then choose one. We see one and either choose it or don't.

Dhushara: Looked at from prescient consciousness ... what happens if we have a premonition or a nightmare about crashing and don't take the plane?

Some people have argued that this isn't a let out and quote someone who had a premonition and avoided a fatal air accident in India only to be shot dead a couple of weeks later in the mountains. But this isn't one history at all and the idea that we are destined to die by the grim reaper who will chase us down with a revolver two weeks later is intriguing, but scarcely plausible or hell would break loose all over the place.

So don't we seriously have to consider one or two options for the future, or we are all doomed?

Cliff: Yea or nay. Do we move toward that future or not? I know if I decide yes, I will follow the perceived path of highest efficiency towards that perceived future. If I decide no, a new future takes its place. Rinse and repeat. When I am thirsty, I don't choose from sleepy and hungry and tired. I see a thirst quenching future. If there are two sources of water, I'll take the low road unless the historical resistance can overwhelm the reward, in which case, there was only one choice.

Yes, yea or nay, towards that future or towards a different one. The farther into the future one contracts can result in increased efficiency. I'm still working on why that is.

Dhushara: Cliff EVERY decision I make has at least two possible futures.

I am about to decide whether to go to the movies. If I don't go to the movies I will watch a video.

To make the decision I have to imagine and relate to two futures.

You seem to cease to exist altogether if you don't choose one.

So what do you actually do if you don't?

Cliff: Where I want to go with this is, what is happening inside the transaction itself. Yes, advance wave, retarded wave, but what information is actually being exchanged and how ...

Dhushara: We can't think of quantum entanglement in terms of information exchange because the fact that EPR experiments violate Bell's inequalities shows that local Einsteinian causality doesn't work.

If you look at the transaction diagram, both the advanced and retarded waves on their own are zero-energy waves which are actually going in both directions in space-time (i.e. the advanced wave has both an advanced and a retarded component radiating from the absorber) but both have crossed phases at the source so the net energy is zero.

When an advanced and a retarded wave is superimposed the crossed phases cause only the advanced part of the advanced wave and the retarded part of the retarded wave to interfere constructively, equaling together the real exchanged particle. Outside they cancel one another destructively.

If you look at the transaction in the EPR pair-splitting experiment, you find that the advanced waves of the two detectors interact at the emission point. So we can see how quantum entanglement can make the appearance of instantaneous communication between the detectors. What has actually happened is that the advanced waves have communicated the orientations of the detectors back to the calcium atom emitting the two photons at the source, and these two then get emitted 'implicitly
knowing' the orientations of the detectors they are going to hit.

But this isn't something we can reduce to classical information about the future because we can't sample the advanced wave without setting off the transaction. Hence we can't use a transaction to classically predict the future in terms of information. IN fact this has to be impossible because clearly the boundary conditions of the transaction include both the initial conditions (an excited calcium atom which must emit two photons to conserve spin) and the final conditions (orientations of the detectors).

Since the boundary conditions involve both past and future states it is impossible for the initial conditions to determine either the final conditions, or how the collapse takes place.

Now move to the real situation which is that the past emission point, in any transaction could emit its real particle anywhere inside its wave function, leading to many parallel probabilities of collapse at lots of points along and across the waves path, we see that what the emitter really sees is all the parallel advanced waves.

Moreover it can't simply make a decision on its own, because these parallel absorbers might also absorb from other emitters. This is why the transactional problem is a 'marriage dance' that is it is a mutual decision made by all the emitters and absorbers together to pair off monogamously.

This is a really logic-defying situation, because we are used (a) to making individual decisions and (b) to making decisions about the future based on the past.

However it really does tell us a lot about how the entangled wave function of the universe might be sorting things out outside space-time proper. God moving on the face of the deep if you want to be superstitious.

Dhushara: Put in its completion, the relationship between consciousness and physical reality, rather than being either an epiphenomenon, or mere identity, or a fully divided Cartesian duality has characteristics more of the complementarity we see between the wave and particle aspects of the quantum world, in which a quantum can manifest wave, or particle natures, but not both at the same time, and in which the two aspects are also qualitatively symmetry-broken, one being discrete and the other continuous. It is this type of complementarity that Lao Tsu called a Tao or `way' of nature, and subjective consciousness and the objective physical universe clearly have just such a qualitative complementarity existentially.

Cliff: In the next world (for lack of a better term) the future is viewed as something which comes closer or moves farther away. So if the probabilities that a certain future will occur increase, that future, feels, seems, appears, is somehow sensed to be closer than before.

But it may be, that it is the mind which has the momentum and our choices become vectors bringing us closer or farther away from the future perceived.

Dhushara: A fundamental theme, which has proved very useful in exploring brain dynamics, is a transition from chaos to order, in which an unstable high-energy chaotic exploration falls into an ordered attracting state, corresponding to recognition of a smell, or the `aha' of eureka that replaces the confusion of a problem with the flash of inspiration of an insight that appears to pop out of nowhere.

Cliff: If it is chaos that rises up and order is what settles out then the future is order and the past is chaos. The dimple in the top of the sombrero is the desirable future. The future collapses from the filtered weight (what rises the highest) of the past. We place a value upon the future as we look down from the heights of chaotic upwelling and it is the upwelling which weighs heavy upon our choices.

However, having reached such upwelled heights, we can usually see another future to vector towards if we so choose.

The hard problem of why we have qualitative phenomenal experiences seems to be described in the topological state of chaotic upwelling which creates a disequilibrium between the present and future. Such thinking would mean that the upwelling was over and done with before the future was ever perceived or vectored toward. Doesn't that fit with transactions? It's all over and done with by the time the emission/choice takes place.

But it may be, that it is the mind which has the momentum and our choices become vectors bringing us closer or farther away from the future perceived.

Dhushara: The mind only has a momentum by virtue of our emotions. Once we are contemplating, the emotions dissipate like waves on a silent, or restless ocean. The restlessness is our daydreaming, which contemplation is attuned to smooth away as well.

But the probabilities which determine, collapse of the wave function, or the likelihood of entering a parallel universe, are not like momenta, or forces, or energy. A particle can have energy or momentum but all this does is cause a wave function distributed over space - in principle over the entire universe.

When a choice occurs in the quantum world it is a choice that can happen anywhere the wave function is non-zero. The strong does not dominate the weak except in democratic proportion based on amplitude. It may be close or far but the closer doesn't rule over the more distant by virtue of its greater strength at all.

This is a very unusual counter-intuitive situation and all attempts to deal with it in terms of classical dynamics fail.

Cliff: You can't honestly defend that. If we are born into a position then momentum is more or less a complete unknown.

I am thinking of a model of the mind like a transaction diagram. The mind gives up something or absorbs something, and said absorption or emission causes a vector change toward a new future.

Dhushara: But look its not the transaction that matters but which transaction from which emitter.

The momentum of the exchanged particle is an inevitability by the Schrodinger equation once which transaction is determined but until which is its a matter of uncertainty.

I for one don't accept I'm born into a position. I'm here to alter the zeitgeist.

Dhushara: You seem to be trying to say that hidden in the chaos of the sensitive initial conditions is a single hidden ordered optimization. This isn't true in either the brain dynamics or the quantum chaotic situation, because the past doesn't have the capacity to determine the outcome based on any logical or formal computation. The quantum situation may have more than one scarred orbit which the particle given its uncertainty of energy could enter.

Furthermore in the brain it is the pseudo-random nature of the chaotic orbit that is pivotal in making sure the orbit doesn't get stuck in a non-optimal ordered attractor that is as important as the sensitivity although the two are part of the same phenomenon. In an artificial neural net thermodynamic annealing a random process takes on this role.

You are trying to suggest there might be just one ordered future although there is a chaotic past. There are not necessarily one but many potential futures and the transition from order to chaos is to choose one. You can argue that in some insight situations, like Archimedes' "Eureka" that there was only one good answer and Archimedes found it. This is true in some situations, but it is also true that even in Eureka situations, there is more than one potential outcome. For example Heisenberg's matrix theory and Schrodinger's wave function are very different algebraic and calculus ways of describing the quantum, so Heisenberg found a different albeit equally effective insight 'future'.

Cliff: The hard problem of why we have qualitative phenomenal experiences seems to be described in the topological state of chaotic upwelling which creates a disequilibrium between the present and future. Such thinking would mean that the upwelling was over and done with before the future was ever perceived or vectored toward. Doesn't that fit with transactions? It's all over and done with by the time the emission/choice takes place.

Dhushara: Yes and NO. This is the problem about two versions of time. The first version is the real time within space-time. This is the time over which the photon travels from emitter to absorber. The second time is the meta-time before which the transaction is promiscuous and after which all the contingent emitters and absorbers have become monogamous. (You can add some particles escaping into empty space if you like). The point is that what makes which future happen in terms of uncertainty is happening in meta-time, not real time. We can try to avoid meta-time but then we run into the many worlds problem which simply isn't how things look at all although Everett tried to claim we wouldn't know about it anyway because we would be endlessly split.

Remember the wave function extends throughout space-time so collapse can happen at different times as well as different places. For example a photon we saw from a distant quasar had a non-zero probability of already having been absorbed by galactic dust on its way here.

What I think is the solution here is that the universe solves the problem of super-abundance of parallel universes by giving itself a living history through a non-linear entanglement-based collapse in meta-time. Meta-time parallels real time, because before all the transactions we are before the events in real time and after all the events we are afterwards in real time too. So meta-time is a kind of quantization of real time. I have to think more about this. I used to describe consciousness as the "quantum of the present".

Cliff: That's not what I'm saying. Whatever part rises where ever on the wave function, that is the part that carries the weight. It has to spike somewhere, I'm saying from the spike comes the perceived disequilibrium. Once you are at the peak, you have all the potential momentum you need. The only question is will you vector into the future of the dimple or the future of the brim.

Dhushara: In Freeman's model we end up somewhere on the flattened mesa of high energy space. Not on the top of the hat but in a little crater (attractor) that either was there and we recognized a known smell (order to chaos) or we had to learn a new smell so there is a feedback between high energy chaos and the whole landscape of the hat which causes a new attractor to appear out of the repellers hidden in the chaos itself.

This is why transitions from chaos to order are not a done deal. There is an infinite number of generally different kinds of periodicities hidden in the fractal structures within chaos, any of which could become the attractor.

Your idea that "the part that carries the weight" is incorrect. It's a classical misconception.

Dhushara:
Part of the reason for my hunt for transactions originally was not just to explain how consciousness could manifest free-will, but because I have sometimes had a series of precognitive dreams.

They started after I read J W Dunne's "An Experiment with Time" in my 20s in the 1960s in which dreamers' diaries were compared with their daily experiences in a double blind experiment and found correlate as much about the future as the past. Of course one could imagine rehearsal might go some way towards this effect, but nevertheless ....

Then I had a double nightmare about being stung. I told my wife, who got up to feed our first baby, and then an hour later was stung wide awake, after my wife opened the window in the bedroom, and a wasp flew in and crawled into the bed.

After that I had regular although whimsical examples, which particularly would come true in the first 30 minutes of waking. For example I dreamed I was eating cakes but the banana cake was moldy. The first thing in the morning my daughter turns up and teases her son saying "You silly old rotten banana"! Deja Vu! It all turns into a dream flashback. Now I realize this looks somehow like what subjective consciousness is here to do in a way that computation can't mimic.

Then I looked all through the theories of everything for a solution. For a while I thought gravitinos were tachyons, which is why I don't find Penrose's one graviton idea of objective orchestrated reduction OOR very interesting because, although all particles experience gravity through their mass-energy, the secret trick has to be in the common or garden quanta we are actually exchanging with reality, namely photons, phonons and solitons, not exotic particles like BECs, nor higher energy super-particles in the grand unification which are way off the biological scale of energies either towards absolute zero or the super-high unification temperature, nor in gravitons which are everywhere, but not related directly to our senses except balance

Cliff: If we were the advanced wave moving in the retarded direction towards a future emitter would the universe appear the same?

Since the wave coming from the future is choosing the path that the emitted will follow then perhaps we are doing the same.

Perhaps we are born coming from the future and we choose the path of our forward progress toward the future. We would have free will to select the route but not the destination.

Dhushara: The transactional explanation for the arrow of time is that the big bang is a phase inverting reflector.

This means that positive energy real particles are retarded. Hence a positive energy retarded photon, like we usually envisage, is identical to a negative energy advanced photon, since a photon is its own anti-particle. A time reversed positive energy electron is a negative energy positron.

So you can go from future to past but your energy and anti-matter parity is reversed.

Cliff: I don't want to go from future to past, I want to go from future to present. I want to go from the future absorber towards the source of emission to be.

If we were traveling such a path perhaps that would explain why we only see four percent of the universe.

If we were traveling such a path, wouldn't that explain our anticipation of the future due to our relationship with the potential emitter. Our choices would dictate the path of the eventual emission.

We think of time forward from the big bang. But is that because we have an opposing relationship with the negative energy advance wave that reflects our motion toward the emitter?

If we were traveling on the wave from the absorber towards the emitter where is our past?

Liz: Look behind you Cliff there it is.... oops it moved when you moved, look it's behind you again, nope you moved again and it moved also... look cliff it behind you again....

Are you making dusty donut groves in the sand yet?

Dhushara: We ARE traveling that path and I'm a monkey's nephew!

The EPR experiment shows that the emitter 'knows' the relative orientations of the detectors even when they are going to be moved after the photon has been emitted. That's why the transactional description is so enlightening.

Future-present is the same as future-past, because the present IS in the future's past!

But if you want to travel it step by step liver and all you are violating all the precepts of quantum reality.

But remember you ARE also a negative energy anti-Cliff moving in the advanced direction.

"Fatwa on Purdah" Movie Released on YouTube

We have just completed production of the movie version of the Fatwa on Purdah.

You will see from the link below to YouTube that some Muslim traditionalists from Malaysia managed to get this movie banned from YouTube for political reasons even though it is factual. You can nevertheless watch the original from the link below at the dhushara site. This is a very worrying manifestation of political Islam attempting to smother criticism of its treatment of women and fascist world agendas of the absolute rule of allah by attempting to censor the free media. This movie is among several which have been summarily benned by YouTube after pressure from Muslim political organizations the Google proprietors don't want to alienate, in case it reduces their market share.

A video and documentary fatwa to unveil the veil and liberate the world from violent and lethal punishments for adultery. It has come about, because a conservative Muslim cleric in Saudi Arabia has called on women to wear a full veil, or niqab, that reveals only one eye. Sheikh Muhammad al-Habadan, an influential ultra-conservative cleric, said showing both eyes encouraged women to use eye make-up to look seductive. To cut out one eye from being able to perceive the world at large, is an assault on the most basic integrity and autonomy of the human being. The need to cover the woman entirely comes from a mistaken notion that because women are beautiful and attractive, they are entirely awrah (sexual parts), and thus must be entirely concealed, even to covering one eye, or they will pose a shameful threat to themselves and to their family, through being uncontrollably attractive to strange men. This is an assault, not only on women, the sex who bear the living generations of humanity, but on men, social trust, the natural world, and our access to it. It stands alongside dire punishments, such as stoning women for adultery, which are an affront to the basm-allah بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم “Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate”.

Fatwa on Purdah

This is my fatwa on purdah
This is my unveiling of the way.
You don't have to hide the fact you're beautiful,
so let your love light meet the light of day

Oh you don't have to wear the hijab
and you don't have to cover one eye at all.
Please don't be eclipsed by your jet black chador,
it's not written in there at all!

And you don't have to wear the burqa,
and you can let your old abaya fall.
You don't have to hide your face in the shadow of your niqab,
al-Llah never ordained it at all!

And you don't have to be stoned for adultery,
or whipped a hundred lashes on your side.
You are sovereign, never shameful, you are sacred.
It was a crying sin they committed to make you hide.

This is our song of liberation,
to open up the prison, to let us see,
for the time of awakening is the unveiling,
merciful, compassionate and free.

The Tantric Tao of Shakti Shankar

The Tao of Biocosmology

Female is to male,

as earth is to sky,
as dreaming is to waking,
as wave is to particle,
as chaos is to cosmos,
as egg is to sperm,
as means are to ends,
as mosaic is to monad,
as gathering is to seeking,
as atheism is to religion,
as moonlight is to sunlight,
as humanities are to science,
as continuous is to discrete,
as calculus is to algebra,
as intuition is to rationality,
as gnosticism is to orthodoxy,
as wisdom is to knowledge,
as Garden is to Kingdom,
as body is to mind,
as world is to self.
Chris King

Rybo:
Limited free will choice is superficial illusion. God/universe is deterministic and we are along for the ride, not realizing that the essence of all reality cannot exist any other way, than the way that unfolds before us.

Dhushara: This is a deluded recipe for catatonia and for taking no responsibility for our actions at all. It's the worst sort of rationale to live for the present and be utterly selfish. You may as well blow your brains out or someone else's - because its all destined to happen anyway?

Why the hell are you able to decide whether or not to reply to this borderline insulting post then? Every time we get up and go to the John and go to the kettle and make ourselves a cup of coffee we are investing in the autonomy of free choice.

You are being an Aztec of yourself, but at least the Aztecs thought they could keep the Sun on course by sacrificing a few people like you.

No God faring religion believes this sort of crap! Only artificial intelligence buffs who cast themselves into the same mold as the von Neumann CPU. How can we sin if we are just automata or Pavlovian salivating dogs?

Even the rule of law depends on personal accountability. If you are 100% determined there's not even any point in punishing you, except that the punishment is also inevitable, and will I guess drive you to obey if we (inevitably) make it severe enough!

If you believe this you should just sit on the ground and wait for death to overtake you, because surely you will do more harm than good by carrying on this way!

Rybo:
Chris,
tell us how your really feel.
Your unfolding,
scours the head,
leaving only ashes,
tell us how you really feel.
We await your knowledge of all,
cleanse us of our salivating dog-like nature,
and numbers from the metaphysical void.
Blow us onto the wind,
of responsible actions,
less the self leads us into catatonia,
and the simplistic binary space of AI.
We die so that others may live,
without punishment.
Amen, Ohhh Great Mama!
Rybo

Dhushara: Here as promised is my unveiling of The Tantric Tao

How I see this and know this is that the universe is a way the sentient cosmos can pull itself up by its own bootstraps to become more completely aware of itself and to bring about what Alan Watts once called the "Joyous Cosmology" - the existential crisis unveiled.

Although we live on the basis we are in the physical world, we actually experience only the stream of consciousness, from everyday waking states, through dream and nightmare to other 'near death' and psychotropic experiences. Although subjective experience seems ephemeral, particularly when we witness the demise of others it is thus at the source root of existence, and fallible as we may be we are like it or not in the archetype of the source creation itself.

We can imagine consciousness simply as an internal model of reality produced by the brain and in a pragmatic sense this is absolutely true, but it's not just this, because we know it also evokes the total and complete veridical reality we witness and call the world and the mind together.

So how does the existential cosmos manage to generate the conscious mind? To do this it has to manifest as a Tao, expressing the archetypal qualities of the existential dilemma in fully differentiated, symmetry-broken complementary form as Female Yin and Male Yang generating the whole of nature. So we experience being
spirit minds locked in mortal biological organisms, particles collapsing out of waves, males anxiously courting females and chaos annihilating and regenerating order.

http://www.dhushara.com/paradoxhtm/tao.htm

It is also a Tantric origin, because this complementarity is manifest as the diversity of objective forms (Shakti) being observed by the eternal indivisible subjective sentience (Shankar). The Tantric creation has three key attributes. Firstly the universe is a fuck. A fertility fuck par excellence between two sacred sovereign
principles. Secondly the evolution is from complete intimacy to the overflowing complexity of life. Thirdly each of the female and male principles are cosmic and direct manifestations of the cosmic source,
so each of us as expressing these source attributes, are in the cosmic likeness of the source itself, not through a glass darkly but face to face.

http://www.dhushara.com/paradoxhtm/tantra.htm

We ARE GOD! This is the immediate realization of the Buddha, of the Christ, of the Mashiach, of the Maha-samadhi.

The process is however deeper than this because it is physical also of Shakti's sap and dew. For life to be possible, the cosmological origin has to present the most complete asymmetric symmetry-breaking differentiation possible and so revolves around the exceptional simple group E8 as multi-dimensional roots of our four-dimensional space-time and the additional six or seven internal symmetries of colour, flavour, and Higg's fields spanning up from the neutrino through the leptons and quarks to the bosons and possibly their super-symmetric partners.

And all these woven together through quantum transaction and quantum entanglement and the wave-particle complementarity that leaves open the loophole for 'free-will' to be able to bring the intuitions of conscious experience to bear fruit in the survival of the living organism.

This complex differentiation of the fundamental forces is not just to be arcane. It is absolutely necessary, because it leads to molecular matter and tissue and central nervous systems as interactive non-linear fractal structures. Without this exceedingly ingenious symmetry-breaking at the nub we wouldn't have life at all because atoms and molecules as we know them in their complexity wouldn't be stable. So tissue and brain tissue is the interactive catastrophe that results from cosmic symmetry-breaking.

We then move into the universe with stars and planets and we get into the era of young solar systems and we find that the non-linear fractal nature of chemical bonding leads to a certain set of complexity chain reactions that fairly directly lead to replicating RNA from high energy molecular species such as HCN and HCHO.

http://www.dhushara.com/book/bchtm/biocos.htm

From there the enchanted loom of quantum evolution starts weaving the patterns of replicating life forms and pretty much immediately we discover that sexuality is the key to the book of changes of life's forms. Bacteria are pan-sexual via viruses and transposons and we have evolved to become the loom of dyadic egg-sperm sex, which enables almost endless genetic variety without loss of developmental integrity.

At the same time the chaotically excitable cell became an avenue for quantum consciousness to take off and over we time come to a converging reality of universal solutions to the neurological dilemma - how to experience and anticipate reality in a way which preserves our survival to reproduce another round of the loom of the generations.

http://www.dhushara.com/enigma/enigma.htm

Intimate with this process are a slew of closing circle developments in which the organism becomes ever more deeply aware of itself and the world through universal solutions from the camera eye, through dynamics emotions which transcend genetic selfishness and sensitively dependent conscious intellectual thought and meditative contemplation.

Although this process is fraught with tooth and claw and pathological disease and misfortune in the mortal coil there is a beneficent association between sentience and early human survival on life-spans of up to 30 or 40 years.

Entering into this equation is the red queen sexual courtship race between male and female, in which neither sex can have the upper hand and each has to run while standing still to secure the affection and fertility of the other, resulting in a runaway peacocks tail effect on intelligence, creativity, sensitivity, humour, and emotional
caring and love, offset by equally strong forces of oppression, exploitation, pillage and rape.

Ultimately sexuality is our shibboleth because we sacrifice our parthenogenetic immortality in accepting the altruism of sexual recombination, making endless diversity of life at the cost of individual death.

This arrangement leads to us experiencing the mystery of the existential dilemma directly as subjectively aware sentient beings.

We do have egos but these are simply our survival dynamic grasping towards our own success and shying away from our demise. As we enter into cultural situations which reject nature, we begin to find new
forms of unnatural human evil associated with cultural egotism, and religious oppression which in turn can lead to our own alienation and loss of relationship with our existence.

However the lesson of sexuality, fertility and giving life to the passage of the generations is that we come to realize that we must needs take responsibility for our incarnation as being in the likeness of the cosmic source and our only real and certain opportunity to do the best for the living universe while we stand briefly on this all too magical and yet horrifying Earth. To do anything else is grasping at straws.

Absolutely critical is treating life, all life and the future of life's diversity as sacred and as a sacred duty to protect above all - above our own realization too although it is entirely consistent with it.

Religions try to sell us a path of commitment at high individual cost to believers, to penalize defectors and free-loaders, thus forming degenerate exploitative social systems, which favour larger more dominant social groupings rather than human enlightenment.

It is thus in overturning all religious assumptions that we come to an immediate immanence which gives us the opportunity to experience the state of the true avatar - the true messiah - the untamed noble savage - that is the liberated cosmic mind manifest in each of us - compassionately of the mortal coil - in knowing we are the cosmic source come at last to know itself in the numinous illuminated shadows of our minds.

Cliff: I liked most of it. But why give the cosmic tao credit for yin and yang when life started asexual? With all that cosmic yin and yang manifesting everywhere, why asexual?

Dhushara: Who said life started asexual?

Bacteria have viral and transposon (jumping gene) sex and have sex between species which is indirectly why we have infectious antibiotic resistance. Bacterial sexuality includes sex organs made by jumping genes which make a conjugation tube connecting different species of bacteria, so you could say bacteria are these sexiest organisms alive.

If you go back to the RNA-era before DNA, where the one molecule was doing both replication and catalysis, this sexuality was probably universal because larger stable genomes and jumping genes were just part of a whole diverse dynamic population.

Where is there an asexual organism?

A few organisms such as lizards and aphids with extremely stable niches or the need to reproduce explosively in a short time have developed temporary parthenogenesis - but they always revert to cryptic sex, sometimes across related species when the environment changes.

Are there just two sexes?

Yes with fusion sex, where the sperm and egg represent a fundamental symmetry-breaking as a result of cytoplasmic wars, when two isogametes combine (in primitive algae and slime molds). But no with conjugation sex where some fungi have up to 20 different sexes.

Rybo: Chris, fungus can have 20, 30 or more sexes.

Dhushara: Who cares? The point is I said up to 20. It's clearly much more than 2! Once you can have 3 you can have any number, but it only works with conjugation sex, in which essentially any two different genetic types can mate because they are just swapping DNA through a tube.

In fusion sex when you have isogametes, (two gametes with both cytoplasm and flagellae) a cytoplasmic war results, with the mitochondria and other cytoplasmic elements fighting to the point where 90% of the cytoplasm is destroyed.

http://www.dhushara.com/paradoxhtm/biology.htm

So this leads to a symmetry-breaking between a large 'wave-like' out-front ovum which accepts only one sperm (and rejects as much as possible all the organelles, except the aster at the base of the flagellum, used for chromosome division), through a fast excitation potential and sometimes amoebic engulfing and complementing the ovum, a large number of 'particulate' sneaky sperm.

It is from this symmetry-breaking that we end up with tissue layers and organisms. So sex also comes before organismic life too.

It is also the source of men being polygamous and sewing wild oats and patriarchal religions trying to control female sexuality and stoning women for adultery because women give birth to live young and men are
never absolutely sure who their offspring are and compensate for uncertainty by trying to screw every woman in sight and mutilating and killing women for having any sexual choices.

But it is FEMALE sexual choice which drives the emergence of human intelligence, because XY chromosomes in particular and males generally are the competing sex which females select. All females can get pregnant, so although there is some mutual human mate choice, the overpowering theme is female sexual and reproductive choice continually being attacked and assaulted by jealous males.

Rybo: "Fungi are good model systems for the evolution of human sexual differentiation because the genetic sequences responsible for sex are smaller versions of chromosomal sex-determining regions in people,"

Dhushara: That's pretty fascinating. The Y came originally from an X and still has some areas of paired genes with the X which still cross-over with X in meiosis.

Over time the non-paired genes on the Y mutated and degraded and the Y shrank except for the inclusion of migrating male accessory genes, in addition to male determining SRY which back themselves up by having
tandem Y copies activated by transposition instead.

But a lot of reptiles and fishes use temperature, or sexual dominance to determine sex, so that fungal SRY gene must be a very ancient sex influencing gene that has had conserved sexual determination over many changes of actual trigger.

There is a similar 'homeotic' gene pax6 in camera eye development of the mouse which will make ectopic compound eyes on a fruit fly's leg if introduced into Drosophila:

See pic: http://www.dhushara.com/paradoxhtm/life.htm

Dhushara: You can see how strong female reproductive choice is in humans from two combined effects, one phenotypic and the other genetic:

1. Female mammals give birth to live young and lactate giving the female a principal reproductive commitment in parenting, and thus being extra choosy about who they mate with. Humans are at a mammalian extreme here - not a unisex species. Correspondingly males try to invest reproductively in sexuality by sewing wild oats and corralling the females - as in Islam and other patriarchal religions. Only 3% of mammals are socially monogamous, because females choose which males they mate with and some males get much more than others.

2. XY-sex inheritance puts a lot of brain related genes on the X chromosome where they can be involved in a runaway process of sexual selection. Males being single X are thus very spread in intelligence from subnormal to genius (the Mozart effect), so that female sexual selection is optimally positioned to cull off useless X genes displayed in males. There are at least 8 forms of X-linked male mental retardation. By contrast the female brain is an X-chimera like a tortoise shell cat, and so female intelligence is less divergent. Moreover the same X-genes may play a role in astute female choice of sexual partner, thus giving these X genes a runaway selection.

Apocalypse Iran Israel and the Genocide at Medina

Muhammad orders an unjustified genocide of 700 Jewish men in the Souk of Medina

Comments on Apocalypse Iran Israel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uB2Ir4_r9QQ

Rebelstang: WITH a REBEL YELL,They Started It, So We'll Finish It. They want Nukes, We've got a few to Spair. So we'll Send 'im one. Defending Yourself is Not Unholy. But strapping bombs on oneself and killing inocent peaple is. Suicide is a PATH OF COWORDS GOING STRAIGHT TO HELL. IF islamofascist want to fight. Then wage war like Men not Pigs.

Icekarma: your'e not doing yourself any favors by depicting muslims as lunatics who strap bombs to theirselves for no reason..or for thinking that muslims hate us because our women show all their legs or we can drink all night in nightclubs, in order to stop terror you must understand what motivates these ppl yes they strap bombs on and kill innocent civilians but in order to have any effect on the war against terrorism we must find out what motivates them and it is useless to think they hate us because our women dress in mini-skirts and we drink in discos. american soldiers commit equally atrocious acts such as raping an iraqi girl then murder her whole family.

Dhushara: I agree about wanton US violence, not only committed in Muslim countries by rogue soldiers, but in Vietnam and so on, where there are still lots of people with hideous genetic damage from Agent Orange.

However we all need to face the fact that Islam does fear girls in miniskirts and drinking in discos and that Islam has a manifest agenda of conquering the world through violence and trickery.

Muhammad appointed a dying man as judge over the fates of 700 Jewish men in Medina who had never actually betrayed the Umma, but merely held diplomatic links with both the Umma and the Quraysh. They were summarily beheaded in the Souk for fear they might. The women were taken as (sex) slaves. This act of genocide proved completely unnecessary because Muhammad then made a peace treaty at Hudaybiyah and afterwards broke it in a trick when he knew he had enough supporters to march on Mecca. The genocide was thus wanton and unnecessary and the peace treaty was a fake. The reality is that Islam divides the world between domains of submission (Islam) and War (Dar al Harb).

See: http://www.dhushara.com/paradoxhtm/vale.htm

Islam has a utopian aim of introducing Sharia. Women are to be controlled and to cover themselves so that men can control female reproduction and sexuality completely. This is not only against civil liberties but against human evolution, intelligence and humanity's future survival.

In the last week a raped 17 year old has been hideously stoned to death in Somalia and a bunch of women who held a traditional celebration whipped.

A Saudi cleric last month ordered that women not only had to cover themselves from head to toe and their faces and hands, but cover one eye as well because two eyes was too seductive:

See: http://www.dhushara.com/book/sakina/fatwah/purdah.htm

We can't simply hope that Western traditions of tolerance and mutual respect will solve problems of religions using manifest lethal forms of punishment to become a force of oppression on the basis of utopian apocalyptic agendas. This is precisely how the Quraysh got taken out.

The day Muhammad arrived in Mecca he had the slave singer Sarah summarily executed for singing songs against him. Other women had their tongues cut out. Om Kerfa, revered matriarch of the tribes, was torn apart by two camels at the age of 90. This is the perfect example we are talking about here. The ideal for all Muslims to follow!

Icekarma: so how does this play out anyways? is our liberal attitudes toward women giving them status equal to men the trigger for jihad? meaning that their utopia version of radical islam means that satan finally has corrupted by women no longer having to submit to their men but when i stated that they dont hate us because of the reasons i stated where i was going is that they hate america because they are invading their countries and believe me there are no shortage of vids showing the animalistic treatment of the iraqis.case in point..american soldiers taunting iraqi children with bottled water and having them chase on foot a jeep all to give these sick americans their jollies.and of course we cant forget the poor taxi-driver who was in the way of yank soldiers so they ran a tank over it meaning that his whole livelihood was trashed and i cant help thinking that was the end of line for him since i doubt iraqi has any functional insurance, like before i mentioned us soldiers rape an iraqi girl and then kill her entire family.and of course if youre a typical iraqi citizen and your house is wiped right off the planet, all you possessions are reduced to rubble and how are they supposed to suck it up and resign to the fact thats nothing more than collateral damage and it serves a greater good and what could possibly give him any motivation to believe that its ok and after america. wins(wont happen) they will repair and compensate all iraqis for all the grief they caused them.there are only 2 ways america can win these wars..they have to have the general population welcome the americans as their liberators or the americans have shock the muslims into submission and of course they could do what the nazis or the ancient romans did by rounding up thousands of innocent women and children and publicly executing them in the presence of their parents, siblings, but america wont stand for its troops committing mass murder. so on closing the muslin world at present have no weapons they'll measure up the americans..trying to launch a war against america would be suicide

Dhushara: I agree with you about the US having a bad influence and there is of course the problem of Israel. And if you read Robert Fisk, he will tell you the whole corrupt 'fitna' goes back to the colonial days, which set up Iran and Syria and Iraq out of the Ottoman Empire.

And you can speculate that if these things hadn't happened, that the Arab world might still be more cosmopolitan, if corrupt.

But the whole picture is more complicated. Because Islam does have an active agenda of world conquest, one can't just attribute Muslim fundamentalism to the struggle of the oppressed.

And if we go back to Israel for a minute. Barak was prepared to negotiate in 2000 and went to Camp David but Arafat threw out the negotiations that had come from the Oslo peace accord.

Arafat had gone to a socialist conference in South Africa and made a famous speech in which he said the Oslo Peace accords were the Hudaybiyah of the Palestinians, or really of the end of days.

If you note from my previous response, about Hudaybiyah, this means he thought of the accords only as trick or treat peace to gain strategic advantage and Mossad certainly took this on board. And he was already training little boys to mount the second intifada which I have movies of training in "The Well" song video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eixNVf91huY

Then al-Qaeda, which had struck two African consulates and the Cole struck the Twin Towers.

Now this sourced out of Afghanistan, not Iraq, yet, partly as a result of not stopping in their tracks in the 1991 war over Kuwait, the US invented the link between al-Qaeda and weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and invaded. But Afghanistan was a kind of just war. The Taliban were brutal and they were aligned with Bin Laden who had clearly attacked the US by proxy.

Now Afghanistan is still the toughest nut to crack and of course Iraq has been partly an issue over oil. But the irony is that Iraq has a Shiite majority and al-Qaeda is hard-line Sunni so partly the insurgency has been a genuine civil war between Sunni and Shiite in Iraq, which is why, despite all you have said, the Iraqi parliament is likely to endorse the US troops remaining there for another three years, and why the awakening councils have had some success with getting Iraqi Sunnis to reject al-Qaeda, even when it may cost them their lives.

Now we cast our eyes to the You Tube Iran Israel Apocalypse movie we started with and we have Iran's Shiite apocalypse moving towards nuclear armageddon, not because the Americans are Satan, nor because US chicks wear mini-skirts, but because the Iranian clerics, like the US survivalist Christians believe the end of days is nigh and the Mahdi will appear and everyone will convert to (Shiite) Islam.

This shows you the Islamic agenda is not just reactive upon the Great Satan but wants to out-trick the world into an effective pirate hijack.

The word 'takiya' means faking the peace until you are strong enough to beat the opposition. It is a specifically Shiite strategy to avoid being beaten by the orthodox Sunnis who oppressed and persecuted them, but it applies more deeply to Muhammad's trickery in conquering Mecca. Every time the Qur'an mentions sakina it is only a temporary peace to out-manoeuvre the kaffir.

http://sakina.wikidot.com/sakina-sakina

So I take the position that we need to be vigilant. I have always opposed George Bush and indeed there is another YouTube video song in which I sing the jihad of the biosphere against George Bush whose lines anticipated the the people flying through the burning towers.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CN4Ec0-paU

But I think we need to oppose Islamo-fascism too because that's what the monolith is. I believe the only way Western society can ensure it will stay free, given the Middle East oil focus is to develop renewable energy and have an active attitude of tough love and poetic justice towards the Muslim world that doesn't give way on any social issues, such as treatment of women, or forming isolated hard-line sub-cultures in the West.

This is where the French, Dutch, Danish and other governments are trying to come to terms with affirmative action towards keeping the standards of democracy, women's rights, freedom of expression, and civil liberties in our own societies and acting proactively to declare and protect these values.

A Fatwa on Purdah: Unveiling Niqab, Burqa, Chador and Hijab

Afghani girl sheltering in a one-eyed niqab

Above is the link to a full article I have just prepared, as a fatwa (opinion of a religious scholar) to unveil the veil and liberate the world from violent and lethal punishments for adultery. It is designed to be explanatory, for Muslims, and non-Muslims alike, on the status of the veil, and its more oppressive forms, such as the one-eyed niqab. If you are a Muslim, it is set out as a valid religious opinion. If you are not a Muslim, its grounds are human common sense and compassion. It includes scientific and biological arguments, which are valid for all human beings, traversing all human cultures, and have implications for the practices of other religions as well as Islam. In religious terms, this is a fatwa rejecting the claim that, under Muslim teachings, women are required to wear the veil, or that it is desirable to do so.

It has come about now, because a conservative Muslim cleric in Saudi Arabia has called on women to wear a full veil, or niqab, that reveals only one eye. Sheikh Muhammad al-Habadan, an influential ultra-conservative cleric, who was answering questions on the Muslim satellite channel al-Majd, said showing both eyes encouraged women to use eye make-up to look seductive. Although the one-eyed niqab is part of an older tradition, noted in the hadith, when a religion gets to the point of issuing a command that half the people on the planet are to be allowed to see only through one eye, whenever they go out in the world, it brings that religion into disrepute.

Neither niqab, nor stoning, are in the Qur’an, so it is a time to take stock and make the way clear, so women will not continue to be oppressed.

Having two eyes is a fundamental adaption of all living organisms. There is not one animal that has only one eye, from vertebrates, through insects to molluscs. Having two eyes when going out in the world is pivotal for survival, because it enables binocular depth perception. If God made all the animals in this way, it was for good reason, it is inconceivable that He would deny it to the females of the human race, who bear the live young of the next generation, simply because they are, and must needs be, attractive to men, for the generations to prosper and survive. To deny this to a woman in the world at large because she may be attractive to men is a diabolical punishment invented by male jealousy, not God.

Although women wearing niqab can cut a fearsomely unwelcoming image as a political statement, the niqab cannot entirely conceal the beauty of a woman, no matter whether two eyes or one show.

A fatwa is a religious opinion on the law by an Islamic scholar. The clarity and authority of this argument stems from our broad scholarly experience of Islamic, Christian, Jewish and pre-Islamic cultural and religious traditions, without being bound to the restrictions, or beliefs, imposed by one sect, or tradition, such as Shia or Sunni. The argument is also clear, in terms of natural biology and female reproductive choice, as a foundation for the emergence and evolution of human intelligence and the passage of the generations to come. In Qur’anic terms, this fatwa is a ‘clear argument’, in terms of Sura 43:61-63 concerning Isa (Esau=Jesus), to “make clear to you part of what you differ in”.

The dehumanization of personal identity. God did not ordain that women, who are the bearers of the generations of humanity, should be reduced to depersonalized ghosts.

Despite the assertions of some conservative Islamic scholars that niqab is waajib (fard) or mustahaab (obligatory or highly recommended) there is no basis in the Qur’an for this claim. While conservative scholars try to finesse the Qur’an and Hadith together (see later) into a tortuous justification for imposing these assaults of women’s sovereignty, all independent authorities confirm there is no basis
for these restrictive claims. Moreover the idea that God, or al-Llah, prefers women veiled, or that a woman’s entire body, or that everything except face and hands, is awrah (pudenda) to be ashamed of, or that women need to be veiled to protect themselves from the ravages of men, and society from immorality, is a false teaching, used by men to control female reproductive choice, and to limit women’s access to educational, social and political independence.

Cosmos ex Natura 6: The Perennial Tao

Mandala of Evolution - Dion Wright

1 The Continuity and Diversity of Life

This section, is an outline of how, in the light of the scientific description of the universe, and what we know from our own subjective experience of reality, we can approach the 'spiritual' significance of our conscious incarnation, in terms of one central purpose, which is safeguarding and enriching the future diversity of life, on Earth, and in the universe at large, while embracing the freedom of the individual to experience the conscious condition creatively and autonomously, to the fullest degree possible.

The principle of the safeguarding and enriching the diversity of life is central, in keeping the relationship between the 'sap and dew' of the physical paramount for the passage of the generations and the diversity of ongoing life, while liberating conscious experience.

2 Complementarity and Symmetry-breaking

This is consistent with the complementary relationship between the yin and yang receptive and creative aspects, of nature and consciousness, in the indescribable Tao, or way, of existence:

The way that can be told is not the eternal way.
The name that can be named is not the eternal name.
The nameless is the beginning of heaven and earth.
The named is the mother of ten thousand things.
Ever desireless, one can see the mystery.
Ever desiring, one can see the manifestations.
These two spring from the same source but differ in name;
(Tao te Ching - Lao Tsu).

In all of its critical manifestations, the chaos-cosmos is expressed in terms of complements, rather than absolutes. In the existential condition we have the complementarity between subjective consciousness and our physical embodiment. In the physics of the universe between wave and particle aspects of the quantum. In the biological realm between the female and male sexes. In the realm of dynamics, between chaos and order, and in the Prisoners' Dilemma, between cooperation and defection. These complementarities are the key to the ability of the cosmic condition to become manifest.

Associated with complementarity is the idea of symmetry-breaking of the complementarity into polarized aspects each of which is incomplete without the presence of the other. Thus, while mental phenomena are indivisible and subjective, physical phenomena are both objective and decomposable into the myriad manifestations of the physical world. Again while the wave aspect of reality is continuous and indivisible, the particle aspect is discrete and multiple. And in biology, while the ovum and its excitable membrane are continuous, the many sperm which try to fertilize it are discrete competing motile packets of DNA. This is where the differences between the sexes become most profound.

In addition, the phenomenon of cosmic symmetry-breaking gives a complex polarization to the forces of nature, in which a single super-force becomes the four polarized forces we experience today, gravity, electromagnetism and the weak and strong (colour) forces; and in this polarization, the large scale structure of the expanding universe comes about, and the complexity of matter, from fundamental particles, through nucleons, to atomic nuclei, atoms, molecules and tissues, and hence the flowering of life, becomes possible.

Furthermore, symmetry-breaking between the biological sexes in animals, which in mammals gives rise to pregnancy, lactation and the birth and rearing of live young, leads to a central polarity. In human society, with its massive pregnancy and long term parenting is at an extreme of mammalian polarization. The strategic investments of the female and male sex, even though they are very different, the one based on long-term investment, and the other venture-risk competition, and each may challenge, or even contradict, that of the other. Nevertheless they are complementary, and human survival depends on the combined effect of both. In their perilous and unstable equilibrium, arises the catalytic stimulus for the emergence of human culture, and the explosion of runaway intelligence.

Human spiritual and religious traditions thus need to be founded on respect for the mutual interdependence of the sexes and the integrity of each, without resorting to attitudes of dominance - of mind over body, male over female, or God over Nature.

3 Sexuality, Mortality, Diversity and Love

Intrinsic to the complementarity of the Tao of yin and yang is the fact that all life is sexual, and by being sexual, and possessing the endless variety which sexuality enables, sexual life becomes mortal, forsaking the absolute genetic selfishness of parthenogenesis. Fusion sex transmits only half the genes in each parent, rather than the whole genome. This altruism results in the endless variety of sexual beings, each with their own identity and genetic makeup, thus giving each a unique ability to resist epidemic disease, profoundly aiding the survival of the species. Sexuality and sexual transgression is thus not the cause of death, and our downfall from the grace of God, but the very principle which makes life's diversity possible.

All life is sexual and sexuality needs to be respected as the interactive foundation of the diversity of life. Bacteria have a form of pan-sexuality using viral and transposable elements, which transfer bacterial genes, and enable conjugation, even between differing species. Fungi have differing forms of conjugation and fusion sexuality which permit up to twenty different sexual mating types, and plants and animals are universally sexual through dyadic fusion sex. Although many plants and a few animal species are capable of vegetative, or parthenogenetic, reproduction, they depend on the generation of sexual variety whenever environmental stresses occur, occasionally even mating with related species.

The mammalian sexual condition is highly polarized as a result of pregnancy, live-birth and lactation, giving the female a principal reproductive investment in parenting and humans with massive pregnancy and long-term parental care are at an extreme of this polarization. The female reproductive investment strategy of long-term out-front sustainability must not be subjugated to the venture-risk exponentiating reproductive strategy of human males and its association with male attempts to control culture and assert dominance through patriarchal religion.

Rather it is female reproductive choice of overt resource-bearing and/or covert genetic male sexual partners, and corresponding male genius in attracting female partners, which is the principal mediator of runaway human intelligence, despite a degree mutual mate choice also occurring in immediate relationship formation and falling-in-love. However, along with this manifest symmetry-breaking also comes a tacit need for acceptance of human polygyny, which, although it is often associated with patriarchal cultures, and male prerogatives, is fundamental to sexual symmetry-breaking. Polygyny is as much a product of female reproductive choice and selection of male suitors as it is an expression of the male strategy of sewing wild oats. Differences in the diversity of the X chromosome and autosomes across cultures, confirm the continuing prevalence of polygyny throughout human evolution, despite the religious ideal of monogamy being asserted in the Christian world on the basis of the Edenic myth of Adam and Eve - a mistaken conclusion, given the earlier mythological relationship of Adam with an all-too sexually liberated Lilith.

Sexuality is also the foundation of love, and love of the other, in partnership, parenting, kinship and comradeship. The ability to love is an emergent expression of the fulfillment of the spiritual quest grounded biologically in the altruism implicit in the sexual interconnectedness of all life. The capacity for love is an evolutionary endowment of the emotional repertoire of the mammalian brain, among other emotions, from fear and anger, through hate, to the chaotic unpredictability of humour, which enable us to relate to one another beyond the confines of genetic determinism.

The essential truth here is that, just as mind and body, or conscious spirit and physical form are complementary and symmetry-broken, so nature needs to be sacralized and respected as holy (whole) in completing the conscious, spiritual and religious quest for an unveiling, with the sexual foundation of the Tree of Life's perennial immortality across the generations. Only when nature and sex is respected as sacred in this way can a paradigm of sustainable life culture ensue for humanity, rather than the damnation and misadventure of hell fire and destruction.

4 Consciousness and the Transcendental

From birth to death, the only actual reality we experience is the subjective reality of conscious sentient existence. All our experience of the external world and one another comes about through regularities in our subjective conscious experience of reality. By contrast our experience of all aspects of the physical universe, and our relationships with other sentient beings, thus come about indirectly as a secondary effect of conscious experience.

Nevertheless we acknowledge that if we cut ourselves we bleed, and if we fall asleep, or are concussed, we may go into an unconscious state. Although we are subjective beings experiencing a subjective reality, we know that our continued survival depends on acceptance of the existence of the physical universe. In this way, subjective consciousness and the objective physical nature of our bodies and the universe around us, (as well as those we love and relate to), are fundamental complementary aspects of the totality of existence.

Despite the belief of many religious people in the existence of God, or gods and goddesses, or the afterlife, the only aspects of the universe we know to possess subjective consciousness of any kind are the biota. It is thus not God, but we ourselves that are uniquely at the sentient crest of the cosmic emergence, perhaps the critical and only way the universe is able experience itself in the conscious condition, giving additional impetus to the importance of the implicitly cosmic nature of sentient consciousness.

By contrast with the undeniability of our own consciousness, religions try to assert the necessity for belief in the godhead - because there is no verifiable evidence for it as such, so an affirmative act of belief, in the absence of real evidence, is necessary. If we are honest with ourselves, we would admit this fails the critical test of integrity in trust, in the same way pyramid schemes, confidence tricks, and other forms of fraud, fail the same test.

Nevertheless, since we do know we are subjectively conscious and that we are mortal beings in the sexual paradigm, we must needs take personal responsibility for this undeniable fact of reality, to leave the world a better place, because any other choice of action, from personal indulgence to psychopathic exploitation, is doomed to meaningless oblivion, in the inevitable event of our demise. This act of taking personal responsibility is the same act that all heroes and heroines, bodhisattvas, messiahs, shamans and sages of the spiritual traditions must take, and it is also the critical step to give our lives real meaning.

The ego is not the enemy of realization, nor is it intrinsically a selfish, grasping, delusory influence, but is an integral part of our mammalian emotional endowment, the dynamic manifestation of the life force, seeking the survival of the organism in the vagaries of a precarious environment. The suffering of the ego, which Buddhism draws attention to, without posing a creator God, is healed, not by renunciation of the world, but by acceptance of the ultimate altruism of sexual mortality, and understanding the fact that the only truly meaningful act we can perform, while alive in this world, is to work to improve the condition of sentient life, and the passage of the future generations of the diversity of life. This compassionate act of redemption is as real in the biological world as it can ever be, seen through a glass darkly, in the world of religious imperative and messianic salvation.

Our biological incarnation gives us the unique opportunity to witness and experience the awesome totality of conscious existence while we are alive in the incarnate condition. This free lunch gains its true meaning, and we gain our true peace, in giving back in turn to existence, and those that will follow us when we are gone, a world which is made better and more wholesome through the insights and good works we have performed in this life, to make the world a more bearable, habitable and sustainable sanctuary, for the generations to follow.

There may also be forms of compassionate dis-incarnate consciousness, with which our individual consciousness may co-integrate on the boundary of life and death, but there is no more evidence for reincarnation than there is for a creator God. Moreover, reincarnation of sentient beings, or even the desires and attachments they possess, violates fundamental principles of evolutionary biology, effectively subjugating the diversity of life to a narrow morality of reincarnating sentient beings, in which the evolutionary adaption of 'lesser' species are falsely imagined to carry a purely human social burden, and in which the diversity of living organisms is subjugated to the potentially endless recycling of a few morally corrupt sentient beings.

Nevertheless in eternal space-time, we are all part of the collective conscious process and the lives we lead and have led, when we come to pass away, continue to be an integral part of the ongoing manifestation of consciousness discovering itself in the universe, from alpha to omega, so the fear of death, and hunger for the afterlife, arise from a misplaced desire for the transient temporal, when the sentient universe is eternal in space-time.

This ties back to the cosmological evolution of the universe and the way sentient life becomes possible on the 'cosmic equator' mid-life in the universe's manifestation, where there are mature planets and galaxies, and the complexity of molecular life becomes possible over long evolutionary epochs. Even if biological life cannot survive the extreme conditions of the big-bang, or the heat death, or big crunch, these very extremes are necessary to make possible the kind of cosmic evolution that leads to the complexity of life on the cosmic equator. From the eternal space-time perspective the equator and poles are necessary features of a single, eternal, integrated manifestation, in which life, and sentient life, is as integral and fundamental a manifestation, and in no way futile.

5 The Prisoners' Dilemma and the Red Queen

Intrinsic to the complementary description of reality is the unstable cusp of the strategic prisoners' dilemma game between cooperation and defection, in which there is continual temptation to defect for higher payoffs, despite the relatively secure win-win of mutual cooperation, leading to double jeopardy in mutual defection. This is where all manner of strategies of altruistic punishment, such as 'an eye for an eye', or 'tit-for-tat' as it is called in game theory, come into play.

The strategic interaction between parties is caught on the unstable cusp between these two, so that neither cooperation, nor defection can never entirely eliminated and the rule of order can never be complete. Neither the faithful wife, nor the scarlet whore can be eliminated no matter what dire penalties, such as stoning for adultery, men invent in the name of religion, or God, to assert control over women's sexual choices, because the rarity of either commands a kings bounty. Likewise neither the faithful husband, the philanderer, nor the potentate, can be eliminated from the game entirely.

Moreover, the ecological relationships, both between species and individuals, including those of predator and prey, and parasite and host, are driven by a prisoners' dilemma Red Queen evolutionary race, running while standing still, in which all species need to be sexual to avoid the extinction of an entire parthenogenetic clone line of individuals. Hence sexuality can compensate, in a single generation, for the altruism of contributing only a half of one's genes, by providing the individual variation that limits epidemic catastrophes which would completely wipe out a monoclonal species.

Although predators and parasites exploit their prey and hosts, each are also dependent on the other, to varying degrees, to avoid population boom and bust, and the likely extinctions that result from population explosions to the point of starvation, in the absence of predators and parasites. Parasites also depend on their hosts for their own survival. It is therefore difficult or impossible to define universal moral laws about killing, theft, coveting, adultery, or other forms of violent or non-violent exploitation of one individual, or species, by another, except in terms of its likely effect on the survival, in diversity, of the ecosystem as a whole.

Although the female human makes the principal reproductive investment in parenting, the emergence of human culture, and the flowering of intelligence, is catalyzed by a prisoners' dilemma Red-Queen race between the sexes, in which each has had to run, while standing still, to secure the reproductive favour of the other. Thus any spiritual or religious paths that advocate domination, sequestering or control by one sex over the other, even in the name of their best interests, is in root violation of nature as a cosmic principle.

6 Religion and Oppression

Despite the higher values of compassion, and spiritual virtue, which devout followers place in their beliefs, established religions are social systems designed to shape the lives of their followers by manifest systems of control. Religion, by its very nature, (re-ligio - to bind together, islam - submission) binds the conscious mind from its autonomous freedom, while alive, to explore the depths of the cosmic abyss, which becomes manifest when we enter a state of repose, dream, or psychedelic, natural or mystical communion. Only in such states can we experience the disembodied cosmic 'self', many people witness in near-death and other white-light experiences.

Those who wish to discover the underlying nature of the cosmic subjective need to free themselves from all religious and scriptural imperatives, all doctrine and dogma, all fear of divine or social retribution, and all compulsions to believe, or obey God's will, and discover for themselves, with as few assumptions as possible, the nature of the abyss within.

Religions attempt to assert themselves, as imperatives, through several totalitarian manoeuvres. Firstly they expect one to believe under pain of taking God or al-Llah in vain if we don't believe. Secondly they assert that it is God's command that we obey him, depriving us of any choice in the matter. Thirdly religions try to convert through evangelical enticements, or coercive practices, like Islam's conversion by the sword. Fourthly religions try to invoke harsh, or even lethal penalties for apostasy, or recanting the faith, making it difficult or impossible to retreat. Fifthly, religions set out moral imperatives that must be followed, which confine the individual into a state of guilt and fear of transgression, and promote societies which punish and expose transgressors. Sixthly religions teach that the priests, mullahs, preachers and gurus know what is best for us all and deny our innate capacity to experience reality for ourselves. In virtually every religion the mystics who would experience spiritual unity in the first person, are repressed, punished or murdered. Seventhly religions of patriarchy set up dire punishments to control female sexual, legal and educative choices, to maintain control over female reproductive choice, and to ensure the expansion of the population of the believers, as part of a utopian aim of planetary control under the rule of God.

Religiosity is also found to have a significant genetic component, which although it may on some occasions trigger mystical experience, favours an individual's psychological need to believe in a higher power ordering their lives, and societies which become dominant over neighbouring cultures by imposing conservative morality, and punishment of defectors. Like the influence of patriarchy, the dominant controlling position of religions over the last four millennia, is liable to result in self-fulfilling genetic selection, undermining the capacity of both individuals and societies to pursue the unfolding of the conscious realm, free from coercive religious imperatives, and utopian designs.

For these reasons religions are the enemy of spiritual illumination, and stringent measures, equally effective to their own contrivances, are needed to keep religion from assuming diabolical control over our lives, and those of future generations.

7 Morality, Criminality and the Social Quality of Life

Morality is an emergent product of societies, in which individuals forsake personal advantage over others for the collective benefit of the group. Alexander's theory of the biology of morality asserts that morality arises as a way of reducing intra-social strife to gain greater capacity for inter-social competition and dominance. That is, moral societies can better survive onslaughts from their neighbours, because there is less internal strife caused by personal expedience, exploitation and corruption. The rise of kin altruism, mutualism, and reciprocal altruism in biological societies has a similar basis, which functions also in terms of individual genetic fitness.

There are thus no absolute standards of morality that we must abide by, and no absolute rights and wrongs. We are better served by learning from example from living ecosystems, which are sustainable over evolutionary time scales, even though they contain predators and prey, than allowing ourselves to be forced to commit to cultural moral imperatives which may be unsustainable long-term because they assert values which undermine natural viability. Control of female reproductive choice by violent punishment is an obvious example.

By the same token, attempts to crush criminality by dire, or deterrent, punishment, under the rule of law, is doomed to failure in the prisoners' dilemma game. Criminality is an integral part of the defection, which the cusp of the game is centered upon, and is legitimate, for example as protest movements, parliamentary opposition, and whistle blowing, if society is to remain free. Criminal defection can be minimized only through investing in a just society, with a high degree of familial and social connectedness, so that violent anti-social behavior has a high cost, in loss of social respect and support, in the local networks of society.

Dire penalties, even public executions, in an unjust, coercive society, simply lead to an arms race of criminal turf wars, and ever more cut throat professional criminal military organizations, which then pose a threat to society, itself as great as the coercive forces of 'order', or utopian religion, attempting to dominate it.
